Dear Parents:
As many of you have already heard, Lombard will be closing on Friday October 13th. We have taken this decision to close down after much deliberation and thought. Unfortunately, we have been unable to fix some structural issues after this last winter. We have put a lot of time and money into fixing the issues and at this point, we don’t feel like we can continue, that being said it is our choice not to renew the lease.
I am pleased to be able to merge our Lombard, with our Kenton site on Monday October 16th. In doing so we will be transferring the majority of our family and staff. Our current teachers will remain in their classrooms. The feed back that we have received thus far has been supportive and positive. We cant thank you enough for your understanding and corporation.

There will be a few changes being made with the merge. We want you to have the current numbers and emails to be able to get a hold of your teachers and Center Director. Our teachers at Kenton will remain in their current classrooms and continue to work with their current children. We will be talking to any parents directly that this transition may affect. As an example, our transition in December of children transitioning into the next classroom, may happen at this time, if it is suitable for the families, children and classroom.

We will also be opening our second preschool classroom for the older preschool kids and our current preschool teacher from Lombard Mrs. Kristine Griffin will leading this classroom. Kristine has a wonderful background in Early Childhood Education and wealth of knowledge in education as whole. Her bio will be sent out to families and posted in the classroom.

Many of you know our teachers from our Lombard location, the majority have been with us for a while and they have worked at Kenton previously or have come over recently helping support the classrooms and training.

Patrece and Irma will be in the infant room with Ms. Sandra
Lamya and Becky will be assisting with Sam, Brenda, Mandy and Kailie
Shay will be working in the younger preschool classroom, still with the assistance of Alake as we transition and look for another qualified Preschool teacher to assist.

Elaine will be working with Ms. Donna and Marta assisting the teachers and making the center schedule run smoothly. We will still have our afterschool workers that will be helping afterschool with the teachers.

Discovery Gardens will be planning on opening another classroom in our end conference room, with an opening date by the end of the year. This classroom is planning on being the more advance infants and one year-old classroom, the current one year-old classroom will be all the older one year-old & two year-old classrooms. The younger preschool classroom may also have the possibility of the older two year-old classroom mixed with three year-olds. After the first of the year, no child will advance to this classroom unless they are fully toilet-trained (regardless of the age). We will continue to assist children if they are still needing assistance with toilet-training, who are currently in this classroom.

Ms. Alake’s office will be directly in the Wobbler entrance and the current classroom will be eliminated as we open the other space. This will allow direct access to our Center Director and make the entrance into this space easier for families more convenient and manageable.

If you have any questions, or would like more information please look at the list below and feel free to reach out.

We have been listening to families about transitions and developmental stages of the children and focusing on making the environment more adaptable to work with the children that may be more ready for the next classroom at an earlier age. We will also plan transitions on a routine schedule to cut down on confusion: the Schedule will be as follows:

These transitions will be based upon the age of the child and the development of the child. If your child does not meet the age requirements but is developmentally ready, then it is a possibility that we may be able to move them if they are close to the age at the transition time. We would like to stress that decisions will be based upon individual child basis and we will work with the families directly.

Discovery Gardens prides ourselves on transitioning children together as a group whenever possible. We are also wanting to make sure that children are ready for the classroom they are moving too.

On another note, we do want to make mention that Teacher Mandy will be taking maternity leave in January and returning in March. We are excited to help welcome her second baby boy! Please help us support her during this joyous time.

Good evening families and staff. I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day Weekend!

We aware that PPS is planning on Closing by 1pm tomorrow. Discovery Gardens will stay open without interruption.

PPS is closing due to the fact that they do not have air-conditioning and other safety measures. Discovery Gardens will take extra precautions as far as not going outside.

The kids will remain inside until the air quality improves. The kids have free access to water and will be encouraged to stay hydrated. All of our facilities have air-conditioning to allow children to maintain a comfortable temperature inside.

Please contact your director if you have any questions.
