Sheila Kilpatrick
Education/Experience: I have degrees in Early Childhood Education, Business, as well as Medical Business Administration. I opened Discovery Gardens in 2004. For 18 years I have had the privilege to care for and be inspired by children ranging from 6 weeks to 12 years old.
About Me: I have 4 lovely young ladies and they are the inspiration behind Discovery Gardens!
In June of 2004, I opened Discovery Gardens so that I could be at home with my children. I quickly realized that taking care of other people’s children was much different than caring for my own, so I decided to go back to school for Early Childhood Education ( ECE) at Clark Community College. I loved the classes. As I began to apply what I was learning about early childhood development and practices, I was amazing to see the difference we were making, not only in the lives of children but in their families as well. As a Mom, working full time in the medical industry prior to opening Discovery Gardens, I struggled to find affordable high quality childcare. I was thrilled to create this much needed resource in the same neighborhood I grew up in.
Today Discovery Gardens has grown to three award winning daycares in Portland. In 2017, on a trip to Las Vegas, I, recognized that Vegas was also suffering from a chronic lack of high quality child care. I am blessed with the best teaching staff I could ever ask for, and an amazing husband. Together we have created an environment that is rich with love and compassion; one that nurtures children to learn and grow in the best possible setting.
