Preschool

An amazing amount of growth and change occur in children from the ages of 3 to 5 years, and children in this age range are enrolled in our preschool program. Change during this time is a steadier and slower transformation, compared to the first three years.

It is our goal to maintain appropriate expectations – expecting neither too little, nor too much out of children. This is the time that we have the privilege, and challenge of helping all of our preschool children master and fine-tune development in their physical, social and cognitive skills. In our preschool program we place an emphasis on achieving the goal of getting all of our children school ready. Depending on location, each center works closely with either CCD or PPS to ensure all of our preschoolers are meeting, if not exceeding kindergarten requirements. This should give your child an edge!

We believe that children must become master players in order to become successful students, in reading, math and science. Master players will have both the social and emotional skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten, as schoolwork is not the only important developmental milestone that needs to be learned for effective communication strategies. Becoming a master player will also aid them later on in being a productive member of society. We focus on teaching your children all of this through discovery, exploration and play.

Our curriculum is very much hands on. We believe that children retain what they learn if they enjoy what they are doing, and how they do it makes a difference in how they continue to learn. At this age, we focus on providing children with increased complex learning experiences to help foster a continuing positive learning pattern. Our goal is to have your child as independent and confident as they possibly can be before they start school. We use all areas of development and learning to prepare children for the next step.

We work closely with all of our families, and are always available for conferences or questions. We maintain a close working relationship and open communication with all of our families, and encourage families to participate in the classroom.

Social:

Follows classroom routine

Language:

Uses language appropriately to express wants and needs
Carries on conversations with teachers and other students
Can relay an experience to a teacher
Grammar

Math:

Can complete beginning patterns
Recognizes numbers “0-10”
Can group or match multiple items
Can sequence multiple pictures and identify items out of sequence
STEM principals

Science:

Participates in simple science activities and is able to predict and discuss what is happening
Begins to understand cause and effect
STEM principals

Pre-reading:

Recognizes their written name, and can find it in several places in the room
Sequences pictures to make a story
Begins recognizing letters and their sounds

Fine-motor:

Engages in activities that encourage the use of fingers and hand muscles including painting, molding play-dough, and drawing or writing with markers and pencils.

Gross-motor:

Climbs, jumps, walks, runs during gross-motor activity time
Participates in ball handling, music, dance and game time

These are goals we will work toward in the classroom, but each child will move forward at their own developmental rate.
